Stranded R-Train Riders to Get Ferry Service

Morning commuters line up to take a Manhattan-bound ferry in the Brooklyn borough of New York, U.S., on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012. Commuters in New York and New Jersey face gasoline lines and miles of traffic jams as the metropolitan area struggles with the chaos that remains in the wake of superstorm Sandy.

The commute from Sunset Park and Bay Ridge to Manhattan seemed like it would get a lot worse with R-train service between Brooklyn and Manhattan slated to go dark for more than a year. However, the Post reports that starting next week there will be ferry service from the Brooklyn Army Terminal, and the trip may actually get faster: “The ride will cost $2 and take commuters to Wall Street in a 15-minute trip, before heading up the East River to 34th Street.” Sure beats a long, local haul on the R.
