A judge in Corpus Christi, Texas, was found shot to death in his chambers on Monday, about two hours after the courthouse, with its secured entrance, had closed. State District Judge Tom Greenwell was first elected district judge of the 319th District Court in Nueces County in 2002, according to his profile on the Nueces County Republican Party website. Someone called paramedics when he was found at 7 p.m., after the courthouse closed at 5 p.m. “It was unclear how a gun could have passed through security or been within the county building, equipped with security personnel and a metal detector,” the Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports. “Attorneys, judges, and some media outlets who have courthouse identification badges typically aren’t required to pass through the security checkpoint. Judges who have concealed handgun licenses are allowed to bring registered firearms with them to the courthouse.” That’s all we know so far, but we’ll keep you posted.
