After the U.S. Supreme Court found supporters of California’s gay marriage-banning Proposition 8 did not have legal grounds to bring the case, those supporters had one final hand to play: an appeal to the State Supreme Court arguing that Judge Vaughn Walker did not have the authority to strike down Prop 8 as unconstitutional in 2010. On Wednesday, they lost. The California Supreme Court issued a “brief, unanimous ruling [that] tossed out a legal challenge by ban supporters without addressing their legal arguments in support of Proposition 8,” according to the Washington Post. That’s not to say supporters of the ban won’t keep trying to somehow reinstate it, but as San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera told the Post, “it’s certainly fair to say that their remaining legal options are increasingly absurd.” In other words, it’s over, and you lost.
