You’d expect a Republican governor to back the state’s GOP Senate candidate, but New Jersey’s Senate race is a bit more complicated; Christie is pals with Cory Booker and sort of hates Republican Steve Lonegan, who challenged him in the primary for governor in 2009. Nevertheless, Lonegan announced on Wednesday that Christie will endorse him next week. Sources told the National Journal that while Christie will formally back Lonegan, he won’t do anything else to support his campaign. Booker may be in the lead now, but just wait until voters learn that Lonegan has Christie’s unenthusiastic support!
