Red Sox Announcer’s Son Accused of Murdering Girlfriend — After Being Released for Beating Her

Jared Remy.

Legendary Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy’s son Jared has been charged with stabbing Jennifer Martel to death in Waltham, Massachusetts, last night. The day prior, Remy, 27, was released without bail after allegedly assaulting Martel, the mother of his 4-year-old daughter. “She said, ‘I was planning my escape,’” Martel’s mother told the Boston Herald. “[The prosecutors] failed. She would be alive today if they had put him away.”

Great force and great effort was made by this defendant in stabbing Miss Martel over and over and over again,” said the Middlesex assistant district attorney in court today, the Globe reports. Remy, who has a history of abuse, allegedly attacked Martel in the kitchen, living room, and stairway of their home before ending on the patio in front of at least one witness, who was also “slashed” at.

An associate of Jerry Remy responded to the accusations on Twitter:

“I never liked him,” said Martel’s mother of her daughter’s long-term boyfriend. “I haven’t liked him in years. He had a rotten disposition.” In 2005, Jared Remy was charged with beating his girlfriend at the time at his father’s home. According to the Herald News, he was then “fired from his Fenway Park security job in 2009 after he and another guard were implicated in a steroid use scandal.”
