Bill O’Reilly Peddles Debunked Claim About King Commemoration

Bill O’Reilly is outraaaaged that “no Republicans and no conservatives were invited” to yesterday’s event at the Lincoln Memorial commemorating the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. He is particularly piqued that George W. Bush — a former president! — was not even asked to attend. The good news for O’Reilly is that the real issue here is not the inclusiveness of the event, but the complete inability of O’Reilly and his staff to perform a simple Google search before making false claims to millions of people on prime-time television.

As many, many places had reported by yesterday evening, George W. Bush and his father were invited to the event, but declined for health reasons (Bush the Younger just had heart surgery). Jeb Bush was invited as the Token Bush, but also declined. John Boehner and Eric Cantor were invited to speak, but declined. John McCain was invited to speak even though he voted against Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and he also declined. Additionally, every member of congress was invited to attend the event.

Good effort though, Bill O’Reilly.
