Bill de Blasio has loyal friends in high places: Former president Bill Clinton and secretary of State Hillary Clinton made their fondness for him known today. “Bill de Blasio has been a friend to both President Clinton and Secretary Clinton for many years,” said their spokespeople in a joint statement. “They were proud to see him run a thoughtful, creative campaign about the issues, and they are behind him as he moves on to the general election as the Democratic nominee.”
De Blasio, who ran Hillary’s 2000 Senate campaign, made sure to note last week that “both offered congratulations” and “extraordinary helpful advice” after primary day. “It was entirely gratifying and humbling that each of the Clintons called,” he said. So far, he doesn’t need the help.
