The rushed, unceremonious announcement yesterday that Tina Brown will be leaving the Daily Beast also came with the news that the site itself may be for sale. And while one editor promised, “The Beast roars on,” Bloomberg News confirmed today that parent company IAC is open to dumping it. “I can’t make promises for the future, but I’m hopeful we can continue to publish the Beast with as much energy, verve and moment as Tina has given us,” confirmed IAC boss Barry Diller in a memo to staff today. “What I can promise is that we will come to a conclusion by the first week in October.” Diller is the same man who said plainly, “I wish I hadn’t bought Newsweek,” so no one should expect him to be sentimental about this decision.
