Air Force Missile Officers Keep Falling Asleep With the Doors Open

Air Force officers at missile silos are under strict orders to keep the armored blast doors closed if anybody inside is going to sleep, but in these relaxed post-Cold War times, some of them are apparently not too worried about that. “In the two episodes confirmed by the Air Force, the multi-ton concrete-and-steel door that seals the entrance to the underground launch control center was deliberately left open while one of two crew members inside napped,” the AP reports. What with the general in charge of Air Force nuclear missiles recently being fired for something involving alcohol use, it’s a rough time to be in the ICBM program these days. Or a secretly freewheeling one!
