When reading about the man from Tennessee who was arrested at JFK for trying to check luggage containing five guns (one of them loaded) one immediate question was: How did he get all those guns here in the first place? The New York Times explains that under TSA guidelines, unloaded guns can be checked in hard cases. But since New York City gun laws prohibit people bringing guns in, they tend to get arrested once caught at places like the 9/11 Memorial, the Empire State Building, or indeed at JFK.
