Story About Obama Personally Funding Muslim Museum During Shutdown Was Too Good to Check for Fox News

Without a doubt, Fox & Friends is at its derpiest on weekdays when the A-team is on duty. But weekend Fox & Friends is still Fox & Friends, which is why anchor Anna Kooiman claimed on Saturday that, even as the World War II memorial remains closed to most visitors, President Obama is personally funding the “Museum of Muslim Culture” out of his own pocket.

Kooiman got her claim from NationalReport.net, a site that posts allegedly satirical news stories. It’s impossible to take the story seriously unless you’re predisposed to believing President Obama is a secret Muslim, and believe it so strongly that you don’t even feel the need to double-check quotes like

During this shutdown, people will have to deal with some of their favorite parks and museums being closed,” Obama told reporters. “Just keep in mind, they will always be there. The Grand Canyon and the Smithsonian are not going anywhere.” Obama continued, “The International Museum of Muslim Cultures is sacred. That is why I have taken it upon myself to use my own personal funds to re-open this historic piece of American culture.”

… “The Muslim community deserves our full acceptance and respect,” Obama said. “We have killed millions of Muslims overseas since the September 11th attacks. They are not all bad. In fact most of them are good. So during this shutdown, now is a great time to learn about the faith of Islam.”

Kooiman tweeted an apology yesterday and promised that it won’t happen again.

It would be a major gaffe on any other network, but on Fox News it probably puts her in line for a promotion to weekday Fox & Friends.
