Fire at Staten Island Catholic School Investigated As Possible Hate Crime

A 45-year-old nun broke three vertebrae in her back after jumping from a second-story window to escape a fire in a convent on the grounds of Saint Joseph Hill Academy, the New York Post reports. A second resident was hurt but declined medical attention, and four firefighters were injured during the hour they spent extinguishing the two-alarm blaze, which began at around 5:30 this morning. The New York Daily News reports that vandals did $15,000 in damage to the same building back in August, so it’s no surprise that officials have reportedly deemed the fire “suspicious.”
