On Wednesday night, the Boston Red Sox won the World Series for the third time in a decade, beating the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 in Game 6. Boston celebrated the victory at home for the first time since 1918, and in addition to the usual revelry outside Fenway and in bars across the city, hundreds of fans gathered at the site of the Boston Marathon bombing, kissing the finish line and chanting “Boston Strong.” Boston Globe reporter Billy Baker tweeted from the scene, “Lots of people posing for photos at marathon finish line. But mostly quiet and respectful. Touching.” The crowd then got a bit “unruly” and was dispersed by police, but let’s focus on the “touching” aspect.
