Wendy Davis Is Running for Governor

Amid the deafening roar of abortion rights supporters, Texas Republicans huddled around the Senate podium to pass new abortion restrictions, but whether the vote was cast before or after midnight is in dispute. Wendy Davis, the Democratic state senator from Texas who became famous for filibustering an anti-abortion bill in June, announced today that she’s running for governor. Texas isn’t exactly the most favorable terrain for Democrats, but a poll yesterday really wasn’t that bad, showing Davis trailing her presumed Republican opponent by eight points.
