A landmark bill to ban workplace discrimination against gay people passed the Senate today on a 64 to 32 vote, with the support of all 55 Democrats and nine Republicans. “Let the bells of freedom ring,” proclaimed Senator Jeff Merkley, who introduced the legislation. Yes, let them ring all the way across the nation hallway.
