Giants CEO’s Nephew Arrested for Torching Motorcycles

New York City Fire Department engines that responded to reports of a fire at the One World Trade Center tower drive down a street on August 8, 2012 in New York, that turned out to be a false alarm. Dozens of New York firefighters rushed to the World Trade Center skyscraper early Wednesday after a member of the public mistook welding for a fire. Initial reports from the New York Fire Department suggested a minor blaze on the 88th floor of One World Trade Center, the centerpiece in the project to replace the Twin Towers destroyed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. A spokesman told AFP the fire was brought under control in less than an hour.

Stephen Mara is the grandson of late Giants owner Wellington Mara and the nephew of the team’s president and CEO John Mara. And he’s an enemy to motorcycles. Police arrested the 26-year-old for allegedly torching motorcycles and cars in two different fires, one of which spread to a nearby building. Mara “told cops he freaked out because out-of-towners were making a racket revving their bikes and setting off car alarms in the neighborhood” around 26th and Lexington Avenue, the New York Post reports. After the first blaze last Thursday, a security guard at the nearby armory chased Mara but didn’t catch him, per the Daily News. But on Tuesday the guard spotted Mara again, and this time got him in a headlock before calling the cops. To be fair, neighbors told the Post the bikes really were a problem. But fire is a poor solution.
