Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is really stocking up. In an effort to revitalize the brand, she’s already bought Tumblr and brand-name tech columnist David Pogue, but Katie Couric joining the Internet company is a whole new frontier. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Couric is negotiating an exit package with ABC News. Her $40 million contract at the network includes the news role and a daytime talk show, currently in its second “and almost certainly final season.” She’s been there less than three years after parting with her longtime network NBC and CBS. Couric “is said to have been personally wooed” by Mayer.

Katie is an incredible journalist and this was an opportunity that she couldn’t pass up,” said an anonymous ABC exec. “Thanks to the powerful association between ABC News and Yahoo we know that Katie will continue to work closely with us and welcome her on our air anytime.” (The companies have a news partnership.)

At Yahoo, Couric would host “a newsmaker interview program that would be featured on the site’s highly trafficked home page.” The move could be announced officially as soon as Monday.
