The oldest finisher in the New York Marathon died on Monday, a day after she stumbled and hit her head during her 85th race. Joy Johnson, 86, wouldn’t allow medics to take her to the hospital when she fell, and instead completed the race and appeared on the Today show Monday. After the appearance, her sister told the New York Daily News, she laid down for a nap at the Roosevelt Hotel and never woke up. Before the race, Johnson had said, “I’m going to die in my tennis shoes.”
