Representative Trey Radel Is Taking a Leave of Absence to Enter Rehab

U.S. Representative Trey Radel’s voice quivered during a press conference on Wednesday night, in which he announced he would be taking a leave of absence of unspecified length from the House of Representatives, in order to enter rehab following his sentence of a year’s probation for cocaine possession. “I will be going into treatment and I will start with intensive, in-patient treatment. That’s the next step,” the Florida Republican told reporters. “Sometimes in life you need a wake-up call. I’ve been struggling with this but I’ve had my wake-up call and I know what I need.” Radel said he would donate his salary to charity while on leave, and that his offices in Washington and Florida would stay open.
