At the end of November, the Connecticut State’s Attorney’s office released a summary of the investigation into the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. While the report included a timeline and description of the events of the day and information about shooter Adam Lanza’s mental state, as well as a disturbing catalogue of the things found on his computer, it did not provide a motive for the attack. Today, the Connecticut State Police made public the roughly 7,000 documents summarized last month, minus what public safety commissioner Reuben Bradford described as, “All visual images depicting the deceased … as well as written descriptions whose disclosure would be highly offensive to a reasonable person and would violate the constitutional rights of the families.”
The materials are said to include “previously unreleased information on what police and other first responders saw when they entered the building,” more details about Lanza’s illness, and an illustrated story about a school shooting he wrote when he was 10 years old. As with the document that preceded it, the full report is not expected to explain what exactly motivated Lanza to kill twenty children and six adults a year ago, but investigators were under pressure to release it, so now they have.
