Bill De Blasio Misses His Own Housing Decision Deadline

Now de Blasio faces a crucial early decision: should he leave Park Slope behind to move to the mayor’s official residence, stately Gracie Mansion on Manhattan’s Upper East Side?

Self-described “night owl” Bill de Blasio has been making a habit of showing up late to events, and it appears his war on promptness goes even further. The mayor-elect said his family would decide on Thanksgiving whether to stay in Park Slope (which is close to Dante’s school) or move to Gracie Mansion (which has seven more bathrooms than their current abode). Yet, eleven days later they still have no answer. “There’s still some serious logistics and specifics to work out,” De Blasio said on Sunday. “The pull of Brooklyn is very strong in our lives and so we have to figure out, still, that balance point of the love of our neighborhood and the real security and logistical considerations that matter in this decision.” They’ll probably make the decision hours before the inauguration, during a Red Bullfueled all-nighter.
