New York City Subway Map Gets Super Mario–fied

New York’s subway map has been reimagined countless times over the years, but it took Robert Bacon, a Chicago actor and comedian, to give it the Super Mario treatment. “I really enjoy making pixel art and find it extremely calming,” Bacon told Daily Intelligencer of the effort, which took him about two months. “I really like sitting down, turning on some music, and making pixel art.”

We thought the feathers at JFK and La Guardia were a nice touch, although not every detail was quite as deliberate: When we asked Bacon why the invincibility star was on Rikers Island, he said it was merely “the most aesthetically pleasing place for it on the map,” as opposed to some sort of symbolic commentary on, say, the impenetrability of the prison.
