The NYPD brass has ordered precincts to stop fulfilling local media requests for neighborhood crime reports, according to Murray Weiss at DNA Info, instead requiring the press to go through the bureaucratic hoops of the Deputy Commissioner for Public Information. Bill de Blasio and his choice for police commissioner, Bill Bratton, will have their chance to start inevitably letting down transparency advocates in less than a month.
