When asked last year about the possibility that Jeb Bush will run for president in 2016, his mother stated unequivocally that she thinks twelve years of Bushes in the White House is enough. In a recent interview with C-SPAN, Barbara Bush expanded on that point, saying that while she thinks “Jeb is the best qualified person to run for president,” the Kennedys, Clintons, and Bushes need to give another family a turn. “I hope he won’t [run], because I think he’ll get all my enemies, all his brother’s, all — and there are other families,” she said. “I refuse to accept that this great country isn’t raising other wonderful people.” We didn’t realize that the 88-year-old matriarch had so many enemies, but it sounds like she just wants to protect her son.
