Bernie Madoff Is Ill

NEW YORK - MARCH 10: Financier Bernard Madoff leaves Manhattan Federal court March 10, 2009 in New York City. Madoff attended a court hearing regarding the conflicting status of his legal representation in his multi-billion dollar fraud allegations. His lawyer, Ira Sorkin, has told a judge his client is expected to plead guilty to 11 counts including money laundering, perjury and securities, mail and wire fraud. The infamous Ponzi schemer is back in his medium-security North Carolina prison after receiving treatment at Duke University Medical Center for a heart attack last month, CNBC reports. Madoff is said to have stage-four kidney disease, which can cause cardiovascular problems (among other things) and usually needs to be treated with dialysis or a transplant, though the 75-year-old says he’s not receiving dialysis right now.
