Cuomo May Foil De Blasio’s Plans by Funding Pre-K Statewide

Mayor Bill de Blasio’s signature plan to increase taxes on wealthy city residents to provide funding for universal pre-K is potentially awkward for Governor Andrew Cuomo, who’s pushing to cut taxes in 2014. But he may have a solution. Capital New York reports that in his State of the State address this week, Cuomo will propose funding full-day pre-K statewide as part of New York’s $140 billion budget, making a tax hike for the rich unnecessary. Even if De Blasio is secretly miffed about being upstaged, he can’t really complain about even more kids benefiting from the plan he’s been promoting.
