In the year of Our Yankees 2012, the New York Post reported, via one unfortunate photo, that “Derek Eater” gained some serious weight while recovering from a broken ankle. The claim was quickly debunked three days later with a more flattering camera angle, but it was too late and the Fat Jeter meme was born. Twitter user @GMags shared the above belly shot of Alex Rodriguez, who is most likely not playing professional baseball anytime soon, with Deadspin. Whether or not it’s just another optical illusion, we can’t yet say. But maybe now “food” really just means food.
