George Zimmerman Will Fight in Celebrity Boxing Match

SANFORD, FL - NOVEMBER 19: George Zimmerman, the acquitted shooter in the death of Trayvon Martin, faces a Seminole circuit judge during a first-appearance hearing on charges including aggravated assault stemming from a fight with his girlfriend November 19, 2013 in Sanford, Florida. Zimmerman, 30, was arrested after police responded to a domestic disturbance call at a house. He was acquitted in July of all charges in the shooting death of unarmed, black teenager, Trayvon Martin. After trying his hand at producing terrible artwork, George Zimmerman is taking the next step in the post-scandal road to obscurity. (No, he’s not appearing on a reality show you’ve never heard of, or launching a line of handbags – yet.) The acquitted killer will fight in a celebrity boxing match, and he tells RadarOnline, “It was my idea.” Zimmerman explains that his apparent passion for trolling isn’t his sole motivation. “Prior to the incident I was actually going to the gym for weight loss and doing boxing-type training for weight loss,” says Zimmerman. “A mutual friend put me in contact with Damon [Feldman, celebrity boxing promoter] and provided me with an opportunity and motivation to get back in shape and continue with my weight loss goals and also be able to help a charity out.”

The match will be held on March 1, airing online and on Pay-Per-View, but Zimmerman was vague about the details. He said some of the proceeds would go to charity, but wouldn’t say which one. “I’d love to tell you but unfortunately there’s so much animosity still from people out there, that if I name the charity now they would get bombarded with negativity, so I’d rather not,” he said, adding, “I will tell you that it’s an animal rescue.”

Also undetermined: Zimmerman’s opponent. Feldman is accepting applications at fightgeorge@hotmail.com, and tells TMZ he’ll consider anyone. “We’re not looking at it as a race thing,” he said. “We haven’t discussed purple, yellow, white, black.”

Making the whole event even more crass, someone has already offered to fight Zimmerman as a form of vengeance for Trayvon Martin. The Game tells TMZ he plans to throw his hat in the ring. “I will beat the fuck out of him,” says the rapper, who has a Trayvon tattoo. “I would not be boxing for me.  I’d be boxing for the legacy of Trayvon Martin and for his family.” He added, “I would definitely take pleasure in it.  It’s legal, and I want to show him you can solve your disputes without a weapon.” You just need your fists and an intensely tabloidy venue.
