For the first time in history, the majority of the United States Congress is comprised of millionaires. Of the 534 current members of Congress, 268 had an average net worth of more than $1 million in 2012. An analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics also found the median net worth for lawmakers was $1,008,767, up 4.4 percent from the previous year. Certainly, this news comes as a surprise since everyone knows all you need to succeed in politics is grassroots support, a few great ideas, and a can-do spirit.
