From the start, Bill de Blasio has said his wife, Chirlane McCray, would play a big role in his administration, and on Thursday, we got a much clearer picture of what that will entail. The mayor named McCray the chairwoman of the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, a nonprofit that raises private funds to support public initiatives. The organization, which had a budget of $37 million in 2012, has a staff of eight and operates out of an office building across from City Hall. McCray’s position will be unpaid, and she’ll continue serving as an informal adviser to the mayor and promoting administration initiatives. At today’s press conference, McCray proved she can match her husband when it comes to Dad Humor (Mom Humor?) She said the more she and the mayor discussed the position, the more she became convinced it was a good match. “So,” she said to De Blasio, “I’m going to say the three words that you love to hear from me: ‘You were right.’” Ba-dum-bum!
