See Jason Collins Become the NBA’s First Openly Gay Player

Hours after he signed a ten-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets, Jason Collins, who came out last year, told reporters, “Right now, I’m focused on trying to learn the plays, trying to learn the coverages of the game plan and assignments. I haven’t had time to think of history.” Nevertheless, Collins did make history on Sunday night when he stepped onto the court in the second quarter of the Nets game against the Lakers, making him the first openly gay man to compete in one of the United States’ major professional sports leagues. As predicted, the Nets were so distracted by their gay teammate that they dropped the ball and meandered off the court in a daze. Just kidding. The crowd gave Collins a nice standing ovation and the Nets went on to win the game 108 - 102.
