It’s Just Too Cold for Mice These Days

Winter is generally a busy time for mice in search of shelter in our houses, and for the exterminators who try to keep them at bay. But this year has been unusually quiet in that regard, probably because it is just too damn cold. “Because it’s been especially cold, it may have resulted in poor reproduction and many natural deaths,” Harvard biologist Hopi Hoekstra told the New York Times. As silver linings go, this is a pretty bleak one, but when it is 16 degrees outside, we’ll take what we can get.
