Olympian Understandably ‘Mortified’ After Dad Plays Matchmaker on Today

Tucker West is the youngest member of the U.S. Olympic luge team, and he’s exactly the kind of story NBC likes to feature during the Olympics. He’s just 18 years old and got his start on a homemade luge track that his father built behind the family’s Connecticut home. The Today show even had West’s father on for an interview during a segment about his Olympian son, which is when the conversation went a little off topic. Said Tucker’s dad, Brett: “I just want to say to all the young ladies out there, Tucker is very single.” He then went on to describe how they could get in touch with his son via social media.

Watch, and cringe:

It didn’t take long for Tucker to realize something was going on: Thousands of eligible women took to Twitter and Facebook to introduce themselves to him, prompting him to text his father, “What did you do?”

Tucker’s dad, talking again with Today, said that his son was “mortified” by his appearance, but that all has since been forgiven.
