Longtime NBC News anchor (and now special correspondent) Tom Brokaw announced on Tuesday that he had been diagnosed with cancer, specifically multiple myeloma, which affects blood cells in the bone marrow. Brokaw said he had been undergoing treatment and that his doctors were “optimistic.” The 74-year-old broadcaster has been working all the while on a documentary about the John F. Kennedy assassination, as well as making appearances on various NBC News shows. “With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come,” Brokaw said in a statement. “I remain the luckiest guy I know.”
