Firefighters Spent All Night Battling Greenpoint Blaze

It took over 150 members of the FDNY to put out the four-alarm fire that began at a recycling facility located at Humboldt Street and Greenpoint Avenue at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Smoke, which floated hundreds of feet into the sky, was visible from New Jersey. “It was a very, very fast-moving fire with extremely flammable contents” such as cardboard and rags, Deputy Fire Chief Robert Strong said. No other buildings were damaged, but four firefighters sustained minor injuries, and it took until around 6 a.m. on Wednesday to get the situation under control.
