Three Tourists Arrested for Reporting Fake Robberies

Gothamist (via A Walk in the Park) reports that in the month of March, three out-of-towners told the NYPD that they were robbed in Central Park, only to have the cops figure out that their stories were made up. An Australian woman, Larisa Ryan, admitted that she had lied in the hopes of collecting an insurance payment for the iPad and iPhone she reported stolen. Meanwhile, two Finns — Pinja Pesonen and Antti Vuorisalo — didn’t provide an explanation for why they lied about the theft of Pesonen’s bag, so we can only assume that New York City just wasn’t exciting enough for them.
