Mayor de Blasio on Always Being Late: At Least I’m Not George W. Bush

Notoriously late to speeches and events, because who cares, Bill “Not a Morning Person” de Blasio just doesn’t see what the big deal is. Anybody can be on time! It’s not special. You know who else was on time? “George W. Bush was punctual,” the mayor tells the New York Times in an interview to mark 100 days in office. (Read Chris Smith’s sit-down here.) “Unfortunately, he left the nation in worse shape than how he found it.” Do you all want New York City to invade Iraq? Didn’t think so. “I don’t think punctuality should be treated as a false idol; I think it’s the ideal state of affairs,” he adds. “But the most important thing is to get it right.” And if that means not being anything like the 43rd president of the Unites States, even the good parts, then so be it. New York did not vote for George W. Bush, so he’s not what we’re gonna get.
