“I did not fire at Reeva,” said Oscar Pistorius during cross-examination today, his fifth emotional day on the stand. The Olympian known as Blade Runner is charged with murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, whom Pistorius claims he believed to be an intruder in his bathroom. “My defense is I heard the noise, I didn’t have time to think, I fired out of fear,” he said, which the prosecutor argued was changing his explanation from self-defense to involuntary action. “I don’t understand the law,” said a shaken Pistorius.
“I screamed, ‘Get the fuck out, get the fuck out,’” he said, breaking down in tears once again, a common occurrence during the trial. The judge called a recess to allow Pistorius to collect himself before facing off more with attorney Gerrie Nel, the prosecutor known in South Africa as the “Bull Terrier.”
