Oscar Pistorius Insists He Did Not Fire at the Woman He Shot Multiple Times

South African Paralympic track star Oscar Pistorius attends his trial in Court in Pretoria on April 7, 2014. As the defence opens its case, the 27-year-old Paralympian will give the court his first account of why he shot dead his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in the early hours of Valentine's Day in 2013.

I did not fire at Reeva,” said Oscar Pistorius during cross-examination today, his fifth emotional day on the stand. The Olympian known as Blade Runner is charged with murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, whom Pistorius claims he believed to be an intruder in his bathroom. “My defense is I heard the noise, I didn’t have time to think, I fired out of fear,” he said, which the prosecutor argued was changing his explanation from self-defense to involuntary action. “I don’t understand the law,” said a shaken Pistorius.

I screamed, ‘Get the fuck out, get the fuck out,’” he said, breaking down in tears once again, a common occurrence during the trial. The judge called a recess to allow Pistorius to collect himself before facing off more with attorney Gerrie Nel, the prosecutor known in South Africa as the “Bull Terrier.”
