Eliot Spitzer Apologizing for All Those Prostitutes by Paying Millions in Divorce Deal

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer addresses the media with his wife Silda Wall at his office in New York, on March 12, 2008 to announce that he will resign from office after revelations that he had been a client of a prostitution ring. The resignation will take effect on March 17. Lieutenant Governor David Paterson will then take the office of governor.

After 26 years of marriage to a less than perfect man, Silda Spitzer is being more than fairly compensated. The couple’s recently finalized “post-nuptial” agreement includes a $7.5 million lump sum, plus $240,000 a year until she dies or remarries, a new car “no more than every five years,” a housekeeper, a part-time assistant, unspecified “entertainment” costs, and $100,000 annually for charity, according to documents obtained by Radar Online. (“El to Pay,” screams the Post cover.)

Silda also gets to keep the Fifth Avenue apartment (“or any replacement primary residences of similar size, location and quality”) and they’ll split the farm upstate, although guests who could “cause any of their children emotional distress, unhappiness, embarrassment, hurt or harm in any way” are banned. Ahem.
