One day after NYPD officer Dennis Guerra died from smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning he suffered while responding to a fire in a Coney Island public-housing high-rise this weekend, two cops were hurt during a blaze in Williamsburg. The New York Daily News reports that an officer and a sergeant ran into the two-story building near Scholes Street and Lorimer Street to evacuate residents and sustained smoke inhalation. They were taken to Woodhull Hospital with chest pains and breathing difficulty, though they are both expected to make a full recovery. Just this morning, the NYPD, which previously did not have fire protocols for its officers, released some guidelines in response to the death of Guerra, whose partner remains in critical condition. It’s not clear if the cops injured today had taken a look at them yet.
