The diverse, influential, and commercial-free internet radio operation on First Avenue will sign off May 23, EV Grieve reports. “We pay a higher rate for royalties and licensing than Pandora pays. We live in a world where these behemoth music-streaming services keep going in for more capital,” says the station’s general manager. “It’s very difficult for an independent medium music company to survive in a world where Apple is paying $3.2 billion for Beats by Dre.” DJs will be playing farewell shows for the next week, so listen while you still can.
