In a Sunday post on the Daily Beast, Gene Robinson — who made history (and endured death threats) when he was elected in 2003 and later delivered a benediction at President Obama’s first inauguration — announced that he and his husband, Mark Andrew, are splitting after over 25 years together. “My belief in marriage is undiminished by the reality of divorcing someone I have loved for a very long time,” he wrote. “It is at least a small comfort to me … to know that like any marriage, gay and lesbian couples are subject to the same complications and hardships that afflict marriages between heterosexual couples.” Sorry, people — it can really happen to anyone.
