Will Jay Carney’s Next Gig Be Managing His Son’s Boy Band?

Almost definitely not. But! A little over a week ago, a Washington, D.C., boy band called Twenty20 quietly put its first video on YouTube. Two days later, a seemingly unrelated story about soon-to-be former White House Press Secretary Jay Carney’s music snobbery bona-fide appeared in the Washington Post (he loves Guided by Voices). This morning, a piece in the Daily News tied those two stories together: One of the kids in Twenty20 is Carney’s son. The other three are the offspring of U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman, former Obama campaign adviser Patti Solis Doyle, and HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan.

Asked this afternoon if he’d be joining any bands after leaving the White House, a reference to his GBV appearance at a hip D.C. club, Carney quipped, “I might manage my son’s band.” Obviously he’d be great at it. There’s no better way to prepare for managing a group of adolescent boys than spending three years with the White House press corps.
