On Monday evening, the city medical examiner’s office announced that 39-year-old Bradley Ballard died from diabetic ketoacidosis, which is caused by lack of insulin, and the situation is now being treated as a murder. Ballard, who had been diagnosed with diabetes and schizophrenia, was found naked, unresponsive, and covered in feces last September, having been locked alone in his prison cell for seven days. He was deprived of his medication for much of that time.
