As Hillary Clinton attempts to differentiate between rich as hell and “truly well off,” Joe Biden would like to remind everyone that he’s an everyman — an average Joe, if you will, which might be worth remembering come 2016. “Look at Biden, man, you’ve got a mildly expensive suit on,” the vice-president said at the White House’s Working Families summit this morning, anticipating the doubters. “This is the poorest man in Congress, he still makes a lot of money — and I do, by the way, I do.”
“Don’t hold it against me that I don’t own a single stock or bond. I have no savings account, but I got a great pension and I got a good salary,” he added. “For real!” Except not for real.
Vice President Biden’s financial disclosures from last year show that he has a savings account valued at up to $15,000, along with eleven investment funds and four checking accounts. He does, however, have a mortgage, which basically means, in Clinton parlance, that he’s “dead broke.” Just like us!
