“The app is garbage,” said one bike-share user, and the math agrees: A Bedford + Bowery investigation compared the actual rack count at an East Village station to what the smartphone said and found “that the Citi Bike app consistently underreported the number of bikes in the rack at any time by a factor of one to five bikes.” Perhaps to make up for the widespread system glitches, the dock at East Seventh Street and Avenue A now has a valet service during rush hour, so who could even be angry?
