Florida Stabbing Suspect Rejects Help From ‘Negro’ Public Defender

A 51-year-old Florida man accused of stabbing a man four times at an Orlando bus stop made quite the impression in court on Wednesday. Thomas Thorpe pleaded not guilty to attempted first-degree murder and told the judge he did not want an attorney. “Do you understand what an attorney is and what they do?” asked the judge. “Yes, they screwed us,” Thorpe said. Then, as a WKMG anchor put it, he went on “what some are calling a racist rant.” “I said not guilty — I pleaded not guilty and I don’t want this negro standing next to me,” Thorpe said, referring to the public defender by his side. “I don’t want a negro standing next to me.” If that’s not a racist rant, we don’t know what is.
