It’s that time of year again: Mosquitoes are breeding in the city’s many sun-warmed, fetid puddles, and some of the tiny vampires are carrying West Nile virus. According to the Department of Health, the season’s first infected insects were recently found in Staten Island’s Old Town and Queens’s Douglaston and College Point. No human cases have been reported so far, but people interested in maintaining that trend are encouraged to remove standing water when possible and to load up on bug spray.
