The Missouri State Highway Patrol will assume control of security in Ferguson, according to a statement made by Missouri governor Jay Nixon at a press conference on Thursday. The announcement comes after another night of chaotic protests in the St. Louis suburb was met with heavy-handed police force. According to the New York Times, the highway patrol will “direct the officers providing security and crowd control during protests.”
