People in 90 cities across 35 states gathered on Thursday night show their solidarity with those protesting the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. Demonstrators observed a moment of silence at 7:20 p.m. for Brown and all victims of police brutality. New York activist Feminista Jones organized the events on social media this week using the hashtag #NMOS14. Organizers emphasized that they intended to hold respectful vigils, not angry protests. The demonstrations were mostly peaceful, but in New York about 1,000 people were corralled by police when they marched to Times Square and four men were arrested. Here’s a look at the demonstrations held across the country.
